Grams and Weston cuddling on Saturday nightOn Thursday of this week, I got news about a 6-8 week temp job that I am taking. It starts tomorrow. Though it isn't ideal work or pay, I am so excited and relieved to have some income for the next month or two! I am hoping there is an off chance that it could last more than the estimated time frame of 6-8 weeks. There's always potential that these projects will take longer than originally planned. So, good news from the land of Smolensky :)
Tom and I enjoyed a lazy Saturday morning sitting around in our PJs and watching Forrest Gump while we played with Weston and tidied up the house. We had a lovely visit from Grams and Grandpa Smolensky on Saturday evening. We had some delicious Chinese food (always a favorite around here) and Weston got some cute toys and Halloween clothes from his Grams :) Speaking of (or, I guess, writing about) Halloween, it is just around the corner. What a fun time of year! It seems as though we have enough spiders around our house that we don't need to add too many additional decorations this year. I'm only sort of kidding. We really do have an inordinate amount of spiders in our home. I can't wait to pull the Halloween decorations out of storage later this week.
Today we went to the Renaissance Festival with my sister. Thanks to my Mom driving around Marshall and collecting Coke points, we had free tickets so we didn't have to pay the outrageous admission fee. The weather was fantastic today. It was a perfect day to be outside. I hadn't been to the festival for about 10 years and it was a bit different than how I had remembered it. While it was certainly good people watching, there were some things that made me feel a bit bad. One thing was the elephants. The poor elephants looked so sad! They were forced to walk in a very small circle while trainers prodded them with pointy sticks and forced them to give rides to festival goers. I also saw a tortoise that had a leather saddle strapped to it and was hooked up to a cart full of stuff. It sounds so ridiculous when I say it out loud! The tortoise's owners were walking behind it with a giant sign asking for donations. Poor turtle. Really, it was quite sad. A tortoise is not the type of animal that was designed to haul products for humans. This weekend's theme was romance, wine and chocolate so we got to sample chocolate from local businesses and we were able to try some wines from local vineyards too. A good time was had by all and it was a nice way to spend a beautiful fall afternoon.
I would write a bit more, but I have to go rescue my curtains. Weston has somehow managed to roll himself over to the window and now he is sucking on my curtains and pulling at them. Silly baby!

Yay! Have a great first day!!
