I'm a little perturbed about deleting that last post that I worked so hard on! Ugh. It was so good, too. And long! And, oh, you really should have read it! I am going to attempt to recreate it, though most things are not as good the second time around. Here we go...
Election season is right around the corner. I usually don't get too into politics. I generally just smile and nod as Tom regurgitates whatever craziness he heard for the day on conservative talk radio. Because I have spent an inordinate amount of time in front of the television over the last several months, I am a bit more interested than I have been in the past. Today we had our first door knocker. I was sort of nervous when I saw a man in a red T-shirt running through our neighborhood so when he knocked on our door, I (against my better judgement-he could have been a murderer!) opened the door. I found a man who was breathless from jogging door to door and it was obvious that he was physically exhausted. I was impressed with his efforts. I got to meet none other than (hold on while I fetch his pamphlet) Mr. Gayle Degler. Yes, Gayle is a man and he is running for county commissioner. He claims he will work hard to keep more of my dollars in my pocket and I believe that if he works as hard at being commissioner as he did going door to door today, then I will indeed keep more of my dollars in my pocket. Mr. Degler, you have earned my vote! I'm hoping I wasn't impressed easily simply because the only other conversation I heard all day was in the form of baby coos....
Enough about my personal thoughts and on to the happenings of our family which is, after all, the intent of this blog. Tom and I decided on a day care provider. She lives very near to us and she has been doing day care for more than 20 years. She also raised three of her own children. Her reference gave her a glowing review. She was able to feed Weston during our interview and we liked that she told us we didn't shake the bottle well enough because she could see lumps in it. We like that she is straight forward. After interviewing her, we had another interview with a woman who turned out to be in her 70's. She had 7 stuffed deer heads in her living room. Now, I am from a hunting family and I have seen plenty of animal carcasses in my day so I'm usually not too moved by such sights. But, 7? Do you need that many? She went on to tell us stories about how she personally shot and killed most of these deer. She also had some issues with pluralizing words and I simply can't handle grammar issues that are as awful as that, so we ixnayed her pretty quickly. We really like the woman we decided upon and yet I find myself concocting all these horrible potential scenarios that involve something tragic happening to Weston. Today I envisioned the daycare lady snapping and then drowning all the kids (this was right after I watched Oprah about a mom going postal and drowning her children). Ugh. I have to stop concocting these gruesome scenarios and just trust that this woman is competent. It takes a village to raise a child, right? Then I guess I just invited this woman to be a part of my village.
Hmmm... What else is new?
Our trivia team earned third place tonight. After weeks of barely missing the top three, we finally placed. The trivia meister took our picture so I will steal that off the website and post it here when it becomes available. For our amazing trivia knowledge, we won some random bar swag. I'm not really sure what to do with all this random bar swag that we keep collecting from trivia wins. The JD shot glasses don't exactly go with my decor, ya know? Awhile back I won a Crown Royal shirt that I ended up wearing as a pajama shirt while I was pregnant. It was so comfortable that I would have worn it all day if it weren't for the weird looks I was sure to get with my baby belly bulging beneath an advertisement for alcohol....
In other news, Tom's awful cold is finally on its ways out the door. He still sounds funny but he feels almost normal. I have been avoiding our friends with small babies for the last week for fear that I may be harboring these nasty germs, but it appears that both Weston and I are in the clear.
I was a little bored today so I took about 100 pictures of Weston ( I wish I was exaggerating but I'm not!). I'll get around to posting some of my favorites within the next several days. Having such a cute baby really makes me want to upgrade to a more professional camera. Maybe we can splurge on something like that in a year or two.
All in all, the last couple of days were pretty uneventful but that's the way we like it around here. A simple life is a good life :)
