I was pretty pumped for Halloween this year. I was so excited all day long that I could barely sit still in my chair at work. I couldn't wait to get Weston dressed up and see his excitement as he went door to door collecting treats and seeing neighbors.
Tom is the designated pumpkin carver at our house. I don't have the patience for it! While he carved away, I roasted some delicious pumpkin seeds and made these hand dipped pretzels.
I also tried this milk carton project that I found on Pinterest. I like the two on the outsides but I'm not sure what I was thinking with the middle one! What are those eyebrows? And what's up with the mouth?!?
Weston and Daddy with the pumpkin.
Tom's pumpkin turned out really great! I thought the spider was cute and the web was really impressive. It took him over three hours to complete. He's definitely more patient than I am.
Here's my little lion having some candy.
We went out pretty early, just after sunset and went through the town homes in our neighborhood and then through a loop of houses that are part of our association. Weston looked so adorable in his lion costume but he did not like the scratchy mane around his face. He forgot about it pretty quickly once his bucket started filling with candy.
Before we left our house, we practiced saying, "Trick or Treat" and "Thank you!" and "Happy Halloween!" and he had it all down perfectly. The first house, he didn't realize he was supposed to stay outside and he made a mad dash into the owners' living room. We apologized and then carried him away, kicking and screaming. After about 5 houses, he understood the concept. However, we couldn't get him to say anything to the home owners! In between houses, he was talking up a storm and saying all the phrases we had worked on but as soon as he saw the candy, he became completely mute with excitement and could think only of grabbing as much candy as possible. After about 30 minutes, his pumpkin bucket started to get too heavy for him to carry but he wouldn't let either of us help him! He was determined to hang on to his candy so he dragged his bucket for about 10 yards. It was both pitiful and comical.
It was about that time that Tom and I decided it was time to call it a night. We headed back home to assess the loot. We each had a few pieces of candy (luckily Weston is still too little to realize that we were eating his candy!) and then let Weston help hand out candy to the few trick or treaters that stopped in at our house.
Candy!
We eventually scrubbed the brown eye liner off his face and got him down from his sugar high so he could get to bed. It was definitely a fun night! I think next year will be even more fun. Today we put away all the Halloween decorations and polished off the remains of Weston's candy haul. Halloween is over and done with for another year. Next up? Thanksgiving and WINTER, It's time to get cozy and prep for the chill and snow of a Minnesota winter. We have finally turned on the heat in our house and we got out the box of hats, gloves, and scarves. I hear there may even be a few snowflakes overnight. Gasp! Winter is almost here!
