3rd Annual Honetschlager Apple Pie Day

We recently headed down to Marshall to take part in the 3rd annual Honetschlager apple pie day. My uncle has an apple tree in his backyard and it produces A LOT of apples.  The apples are delicious for eating and baking and they don't get sprayed with pesticides so I think we can officially consider them to be organic.  He literally had two refrigerators and several boxes full of  beautiful, organic apples.  I can't even begin to count how much it would cost to buy all those apples.  It's so nice to be able to do this each fall!  I think I would like to have an apple tree in my backyard someday. The whole day was really nice. We got to see family members that we haven't seen for months, we made apple pies, and we peeled/cut lots of apples to make delicious apple desserts through the winter. Of course, we got to sample fresh pie with ice cream.

Two of my cousins, Michelle and Janet, along with Tom, peeling apples.  This day is traditionally for the women and girls of the family to get together while the guys go pheasant hunting.  The guys did go pheasant hunting (thus Tom's giant orange sweatshirt) but they stopped in to join us near the end of the afternoon so Tom got in on some of the apple peeling action. The hunting party was unsuccessful but they had fun and they got to come back to some delicious apple pie.

We made about a dozen pies and we had numerous bags of peeled/cut apples for each of us to take home. We also got some eating apples to take home.
