Question: How do you put together a rounded meal (pork chops, pierogies, vegetables, milk and dinner rolls) for less than $.80 per serving?Answer: Combine coupons with sale prices on double coupon day!
News from the couponing world notified me that there is a new TLC show called "Extreme Couponing." Since we don't have extended cable, I haven't seen the show but I DID check out the promo commercials on TLC's website. I have to admit that what I saw was pretty jaw dropping. I try to save a few bucks on groceries by using coupons but the people on this show are NUTS. They are crazy, extreme, coupon nut jobs. You should check out the commercial plugs for the show if you have a chance. You'll laugh if you watch some of the trailers..... I did. I mean, really! Who needs a whole cart full of Gatorade??!? Or a whole cart full of candy bars? That being said, couponing has helped us shave our grocery bill down by about 20 dollars per week which adds up pretty quickly when you start looking at monthly and yearly totals. With my pay cut, we're trying hard to shave down our expenses in all areas and couponing gives us a helping hand when it comes to cutting back on our grocery needs. We subscribe to the Sunday paper which is my only source of coupons because I can't get myself to waste hours of time on the internet in an attempt to find good coupons online. My goal on every trip is to get the 'you saved' total on the bottom of the receipt to be equal to or greater than my out of pocket expenses. Check out my receipt from last Saturday!
My total of $25.32 included the following coupon items: pork chops, soap, bathroom cleaner, veggies, band aids, baby formula, mouthwash, toothpaste, body wash, deodorant, cheese, and milk as well as some additional item that were on my weekly 'need' list (vinegar, eggs, romaine, oranges, toilet paper). That's pretty good!
