Weston Goes Swimming

Weston had his first foray into the world of aquatics this morning. I took him to the community center for tot time in the kiddie pool. Bringing an almost 6 month old baby swimming is definitely adventurous. I think I spent more time getting him ready for the pool and then getting him clean again after the pool than what we actually spent in the pool but that's how it goes with little ones! We played with Emily and Luci and with some water friendly toys. I also pulled Weston around the pool on his belly to see how he would do 'swimming'. He did a great job of keeping his head out of the water and kicking. I wish I had a picture of him in his teeny-tiny swim trunks but I was too nervous about ruining the camera to bring it in to the pool area. Other than one minor incident which involved Weston throwing up into the pool, we had a great time!

My afternoon was not as fun...
I was supposed to go take a random drug test for the temp agency I am working with. The weather wasn't so great, but I was required to take the test so I bundled up Weston and we headed to the Southview hospital in Edina to take the test. What would normally have been a 20-25 minute drive turned into about an hour as traffic slowed to a 10 miles per hour crawl. I thought about turning around but decided to weather the storm. After risking life, limb, and baby, I arrived at the hospital. I parked in the parking ramp and dragged Weston, carrier and all, down three flights of parking ramp and across an icy parking lot into the building and then up (thankfully using the elevator this time) 6 floors to the lab. When I got there, the lab tech informed me that children were not allowed to enter the room with me. I told her he was not even 6 months old and she explained that their policy prohibited children in order to prevent people from using their children's urine for the tests. Did she really think I could get my baby to pee on command into a cup? Or, stranger yet, did she think I would wring out his diaper into the little cup? Seriously?!? She refused to watch him for the 30 seconds it would take me to pee so we headed back down to the first floor, across the icy parking lot, and then up the three levels of parking ramp back to the car. I made an angry phone call to Dear Husband who consoled me and then I spent another hour driving home in the nasty weather. I'm going to have to make another trip out there on Monday.

But, hey-It's FRIDAY!
