2012 is officially half over so I wanted to revisit my resolution for this year. My goal for this year was not to purchase any clothing items for myself. This resolution was inclusive to ALL clothing. We're talking pants and shirts as well as underwear, bras, socks, shoes, and jewelry. My goal was not to buy anything for myself and I've done a pretty good job. Unfortunately, I can't say that I've been 100% successful in reaching my goal.
I did make few purchases in the last 6 months. The first time I broke my resolution was in April when I was at Goodwill doing some shopping for Weston. The store happened to be running a sale where all pants were only $1.00 because they were trying to make room for summer clothes. ONLY $1.00! I got suckered into the good deal and bought three pairs of pants. My second offense was a very conscious choice. I really needed to get a black swimsuit bottom to replace my worn, saggy-bottom, no-more-elastic swimsuit bottoms. I couldn't even keep them up anymore! I felt this was a really justified purchase. I ended up getting a great pair at Target. My third offense occurred this weekend. I went to Wal-Mart to pick up some last minute ingrediants for a pot-luck salad and I happened to wander down the shoe aisle. I was mostly going to check for shoes for Weston (Isn't it funny how it always starts with me looking for something for Weston?), but I ended up in the ladies' section where I found a pair of winter boots on clearance for only $3.00! This deal was too good to pass up so I am now the owner of a pair of really ugly (but useful) winter boots.
My spending total for the year is still under $30.00. I feel really good about that! I know a lot of people who average more than that in a single week. Not spending money on shopping has been good on the pocketbook, but it wasn't my main reason for this resolution. My main reason for establishing this resolution was because we don't have space for more stuff! I wanted to embrace living on less and I wanted to simplify my life (and my closet). After this year is up, I'll be instating the rule that one item must be donated for each new item that enters my closet.
I'm hoping the next 6 months will be as successful as these last 6 months!
